5 things to look for when buying kitchen ceramic canisters

There is a small but an essential checklist to keep in mind when buying ceramic jars for kitchen. These points are usually there in the back of our minds but I thought I will make it easier for everyone to take note.

Once you have chosen a certain ceramic jar with your choice of color and design, I would recommend checking for these small but very important features quickly:

  1.  Are the jars food-safe ? You don't want chemicals leaching into your food.
  2. Are the ceramic jars dishwasher safe ? The jars would mostly be dishwasher safe but do check this as it makes life easy. Also, check if the lids (which have a silicone ring), need to be hand washed. Sometimes, the jars could be very tall and you might need to just hand wash them to thoroughly clean from inside.
  3. Outside and inside the jar :  check for any cracks or chipped surfaces.
  4. Open and check the lids. For example for me, having good and easy to work with lids, makes or breaks the deal. Since you have to handle this daily so don't take it lightly.
    •  Are you able to hold and pull the lid out in one go, effortlessly ? The lid should not slip out of your hand when pulling it out. And the lid shouldn't feel too tight to pull. Some jars have little knobs on the lids, which are too small for the grip and this makes it difficult to pull the lid.
    • When you put the lid back, does it fit back properly? For example, the lid might not fit back because of the incorrect size of the silicone ring.
    • Does the lid feel air-tight, when you use it?  A good air-tight jar will keep the contents fresh for longer.
  5.  Last but not the least, is to check the size and capacity of the jars. Would the jars be able to hold enough coffee or tea bags for your daily needs ? Given the size, how often would you need to refill the jars ? For example , the standard size of a bottle of coffee powder that you buy in your groceries is around 100 or 200 gms. So the jar that you choose, should be able to store this much coffee.
I hope you will find these points helpful when shopping for canisters and jars for your kitchen. Do share with me and let me know, if you found this useful.
